Flash Sale Day 2!

We are having a second snow day here in my neck of the woods!!! This is unheard of!  It hasn't happened in a good 20 years.

In honor of yet glorious snow day (when the sun is shining and everyone is digging out), I have put on a second 20% Flash Sale at the Leaping into Teaching TPT Store until midnight tonight!  I also have 2 new products that I added

Here’s what I added:

The first little goody is a revamped version of my Roll and Respond Reading Activities.  Sticky Note Reading Responses utilizes the same fiction and nonfiction prompts as the Roll and Respond boards in a great new format.  Students LOVE using sticky notes and this provides a great way for students to respond to their reading with prompts that compliment your instruction.  Student choice is also incorporated with the use of the board.  They are great for independent reading, homework, shared reading or listening response, or guided reading groups.

The second is a companion product for any unit on Terrific Tall Tales, including the second grade Common CORE module on fairy tales and tall tales.

It includes text feature posters, graphic organizers that focus on characterization and structure, writing activities that focus on the three major writing genres, writing and book making paper, and finger puppets for retelling and readers’ theater activities.  My students LOVED these activities!

Twenty-Something Teacher Guest Post

Hey Y’all! My name is Chelsea and I blog over at The Twenty-Something Teacher. Today Christine and I are trading blogs and I am so excited to be able to share with you all!

Twenty-Something Teacher

Here are a few facts about me to introduce myself:
1. I am a Texas girl born and raised but I live in Oklahoma now.
2. I am married to the most wonderful man in the world and we have a fur-child, our dog Murphy.
3. I have a phobia of chewing gum. I had a nightmare my freshman year of college that involved gum getting stuck in my teeth to where I couldn’t get it out and I haven’t been able to chew it since.
4. I am addicted to Instagram and I’ll admit it. I spend way too much time taking and editing photos to post. {You can follow me here if you’d like!} :)
5. I teach 6th grade Social Studies and it is my first year of teaching.
6. I blog about all things school, fashion, food, craft, design, etc.
7. I want to travel the world but i’m terrified of flying. I am the worst flyer ever.
8. My biggest pet peeve is when people text during a meal, it drives me nuts!
9. I am a serious Target addict.
10. I drink more coffee than a human being should.

For my post here today I decided to share some of my go-to Teaching Essentials with you all. I posted this last month on my blog and I got such a huge response from it that I wanted to share with y'all!
My must haves include:
-A notebook and my favorite Flair pens for jotting down ideas
-COFFEE
-Kashi Pumpkin Spice Flax granola bars (which my teammate at Desk Diaries introduced me to) to stay full longer
-Hand sanitizer and Emergen-C to fight off the little germies
-A planner to keep everything scheduled
-My iPads for looking up lesson ideas *cough* shopping *cough*
-Pretty Expo markers for writing on the board
-Baby Lips Chapstick for keeping chapped lips at bay, especially in the winter
-Post-It Notes for jotting down quick ideas (I am a Post-It Note ADDICT!)
-Jumbo paper clips and cute binder clips to keep papers organized
-Water bottles to stay hydrated
-Hair ties and bobby pins
-A back up pair of comfy slippers in case those totally adorable shoes you got from the Target clearance rack don't turn out to be such a great deal for your feet (been there, done that)
-A spare flash drive for transferring documents back and forth from school to home
-A back up phone charger! We have no cell service in our building so using my phone drains the battery so quickly!

What are your go-to teaching essentials?
I want to thank Christine again for letting me blog-swap with her! You should go check out her post on my blog as well. I would love to get to know all of you so you can follow my blog here, or find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!

10 Books Challenge Begins!

Assessments, reflections, and progress reports, oh my!  I am finally emerging from my progress report coma and ready to tackle my growing list of things to do!

One of the things I had wanted to tackle was to get my "10 Professional Books" Challenge started! Last week I posted about my ever-growing stack  hoard collection of professional books and how I wanted to make it a goal to read them.  The beauty of this challenge is that you can read any book that supports you professionally.  Here are the details:

TPT Sale Scores!

I'm linking up with Blog Hoppin' to share my goodies from the most recent TPT sale! I scored some really good items and I'm sure I'll find some more when I check out the linky! Click on the pictures to head to the product!

First is a resource I used all the time with my third graders and I had an eye on the second grade version for a while. These organizers from Jamie Rector are fabulous for making journals for reading group and creating response activities.

Next are these great brochures! Again, I am thinking of reading groups or of home reading homework. The was at least one other version with different skills from the same author, but this was just what I was looking for!

I found these reselling wands when I was looking for some strategies to teach my kiddos how to retell nonfiction texts.  Think they will be perfect!

My kids are obsessed with "What Does the Fox Say" and this text evidence resource fits in perfectly with my nonfiction texts unit. Thank you to Pinterest for adding to my TPT cart!

These class writing journals are perfect for breaking my class out of their journal rut! I think they will be an awesome treat for students who are going above and beyond, and inspiring a few more students to show me their best to join in the fun!

Bloggers have been raving about this CORE reading resource. I was hesitant to purchase it, only because I am not certain what grade I am teaching next year. However, I just couldn't avoid snapping it up!

Again, I thought these logs would be perfect to add to homework or as an accountability piece for read to self. I have been struggling with the this year.

I have been trying to set up WW this year and just haven't felt like its working. It's looks like a great resource to help!

I also picked up a few items for building new products. Can't wait to play with them!

So, these were my purchases. I tried really shard to restrain myself given my personal budget and not being certain where I will be next year. I am hesitant to buy of much that will not fit for other grades. I can't wait to see what others bought!
