I always go through my books at the end of the year and think about what great ones I would like to set aside for the next school year. Somehow they always get mixed back into my crazy HUGE classroom library and I forget!
I always start with an author study of Kevin Henkes. His books are great for teaching classrooms rules and character education, but are also great for kicking off reading workshop and writing workshop. I will post about that later. This year I tried something new. We have an end-of-the-year writing piece the is a lit. response. This year, I reread the Bucket Filler book and reread the Kevin Henkes books. The children then compared what they learned from the Bucket Filler book and connected that to one of the Henkes favorites.
I know there are tons more, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head and the ones I use consistently. I am getting a ton of ideas from the other links! I can see that I will be using my end-of-year gift cards to pick up a few new books!

Connecting Science and Writing through inquiry and observation skills.
We read this book before going out to the school garden to make observations. We talk about how to observe and why scientists observe.

A fun newcomer to the market that your students (especially those welcoming a baby sibling!) will LOVE is Share With Brother by Steven Layne. It gives a whole new meaning to "sharing is contagious!"
